So it has been a really really long time since I posted. I guess the back to school craziness lasted longer than I thought! Anyway, I am still around and thinking about lots of great comfort food and recipes to blog about now that Fall is well underway. But in the meantime I have found a fabulous new wine to tell you about!
Usually we try to keep our ‘house’ wines under $15…well more like under $11 but that can sometimes be quite difficult.
The other day I was at work and knew that my hubby was cooking up something great for dinner (he is a FAB cook among other things) so I decided to head out and see if I could pick up a bottle for dinner. I found a private store, Coal Harbour Liquor Store, close to my office and went in to have a look around. (Great store by the way if you are in the downtown Vancouver area.)
In the far corner I found a few boxes of an Argentinian wine with a $10 price tag on it. Vina Antigua 2007. The price had me hooked, but was it going to be any good? Always a gamble. It’s 50% Sangiovese and 50% Bonarda blend, a varietal I am not familiar with. 2007 year vintage, ok so 5 years not bad. 12.8% alcohol, decent. What the heck, can’t loose really at $10 a bottle.
Well I was impressed to say the least. Tobacco notes as soon as you open. Let it breath for a bit and get rich berry and liquorice. Delicious is all I can say. Just perfect for a great fall dish of beef stew or something in the slow cooker. For the price it is a smokin’ deal.
The next day I went back and bought 5 more bottles. Apparently it’s the best selling wine in the store. It isn’t available through LBC, but with an internet search I am sure you could find a local private store that carries it. Either way, find some and buy it before it sells out!
